Terminally-ill Kendra Wiberg's wish to take daughters to Disney

A mother from Kamloops, B.C., wants to take her two young daughters on a dream vacation before she succumbs to terminal illness.

Kendra Wiberg, 37, has been diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of abdominal cancer. When one of her friends asked what was left on her bucket list, Weiberg said she wanted to take her three-year-old and five-year-old to Disneyland.

"It was something my husband and I had always talked about, but we were thinking we would take the kids when they were seven and nine. So when I saw this commercial come on for Disneyland, I honestly started sobbing because I thought it was something I would never get to do with my girls," said Wiberg.

"I can't hurry up and see them get married and I can't see them graduate school and I can't see them have their own kids, but I can see them get to Disneyland. So it's incredibly important and special to me." 

Friends making dream trip happen

Wiberg's friends have started collecting donations in her hometown of Revelstoke, B.C. — and through an online fundraiser — so she can make her dream, two-week vacation happen while she's still healthy enough to go.

As of Feb. 11, the online campaign, which can be found by searching "Kendra's Dream Trip" on gofundme.com, is $5,000 shy of its $19,000 goal.

But it is the support from hundreds of well-wishers that has meant the most to Wiberg.

"To read their comments and to just sort of experience all that emotion from people has been what has really been the most touching."

Wiberg started chemotherapy this week in hopes she can take her daughters on the trip in the next two months, and perhaps even celebrate their next birthdays.
