17-year-old from Surrey facing multiple charges after he rammed a cruiser, fled on foot and hid in a tree
A 17-year-old from Surrey is in custody facing drugs, weapons and flight-from-police charges after ramming a Vancouver police cruiser in the neighbourhood of West 13 Avenue and Ash Street Monday night.
Around 11 p.m. PT, VPD officers attempted to pull over a blue Acura sedan that was being driven erratically, but the driver took flight.
Last night PSD Hunter demonstrated how invaluable our K9's are to protecting Vancouver. A violent male rammed police & fled on foot. PSD Hunter tracked him down hiding in a backyard tree. Still not ready to give up, he jumped out & was stopped by PSD Hunter. #gooddog #safestreets pic.twitter.com/Px4IFQtrZx

According to Const. Jason Doucette, police began to pursue the young man but quickly gave up due to public safety concerns of speeding through a residential neighbourhood.
A few minutes later, however, the suspect drove head-on into a police car. A second police car boxed in the driver from behind.
The suspect fled on foot but was discovered soon after hiding in a tree. He was apprehended with the help of a police dog and treated for a dog bite in hospital before being taken to jail.
One officer suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.
