Person set on fire near Surrey Central station: RCMP
Police say a man attacked another person near the 10200-block of City Parkway at about 1:10 p.m. PT on Friday
A man was lit on fire near Surrey Central Station Friday afternoon, according to police in the Metro Vancouver suburb.
In a statement, Surrey RCMP Const. Parm Kahlon said they received reports of an attack at about 1:10 p.m. PT, near the 10200-block of City Parkway.
The local RCMP confirmed the attacker allegedly assaulted the victim by throwing a fire accelerant on the victim's body and lighting him on fire. Police said Saturday the victim remains in hospital with serious burns.
Kahlon said the suspect stole a white Mini Cooper with black stripes, after the attack, and drove away from the scene.
Mounties say they have now recovered the stolen vehicle with the assistance of the public, but the alleged attacker remains at large.
Police describe the suspect as a man aged between 25 and 30 years old, with a moustache. He was last seen wearing black pants, a grey hoodie with black sleeves, and a green baseball cap with "Cariboo" written on it.
Police say they are canvassing the area, speaking to witnesses and looking for security camera footage. They released photos of the suspect on Friday.
Kahlon said that, currently, police don't know the motive behind the attack.
Police are asking anyone with information about the assault, or the suspect, to contact Surrey RCMP. They are asking anyone who sees the suspect to call 911.
