Surrey marks homicide record with 22nd death
Unidentified man found dead in a Surrey home on Monday
An unidentified man has been found dead in Surrey, B.C., marking the city's 22nd homicide of the year — the most in the city's history.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to a home on the 12000 block of 99 Avenue just after 8 a.m. PT on Monday.
Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the means and cause of death are still unknown but the man's death has been deemed suspicious.
The name of the victim has not been confirmed, but he is not believed to live in the house. Pound said it is too early to tell if the slaying is related to drugs or gangs.
Several other people, who were at the house when police arrived, are cooperating with investigators. No arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts and RCMP Chief Supt. Bill Fordy have announced a task force to look at the record-breaking number of homicides in Surrey this year.
