RCMP warn of toxic drugs after 3 deaths in 12 hours in Surrey

Surrey RCMP are warning that a toxic batch of drugs is being distributed after three people died suddenly of suspected drug overdoses in a 12-hour period.

Police arrested a man allegedly connected to the overdoses Thursday afternoon.

The three overdose victims are not believed to have known each other. 

In a statement, the RCMP say it is dangerous to use non-prescription drugs purchased from unregulated sources, but anyone who makes that choice should follow several safety measures.

Those measures include not using drugs alone and being careful about dosage size.

Police say users should also have a naloxone kit capable of reversing overdoses and should call 911 immediately if they or anyone else needs medical assistance.

Officers arrested a 19-year-old man in the area of 200 St. and 72 Ave. in Langley, who they believe to be potentially connected to the overdose deaths.

"During the arrest, police located and seized multiple doses of suspected blue and purple fentanyl, crystal meth and crack cocaine," said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Elenore Sturko in a written statement adding that other items consistent with drug trafficking were also seized.

"It is believed the blue and purple fentanyl is potentially lethal and they are warning drug users against consumption of this drug," Sturko's statement read.
