A cat statue stolen from outside a Kelowna, B.C. couple's home last week was safely returned Monday morning.

"I looked out the window and lo and behold there was the cat statue standing on the sidewalk,"  said Jeanette Hoft.  "I was very excited. One of the best mornings ever."

The Egyptian cat statue, which Hoft had hauled around the world for 20 years, is only worth about $1,000, but carries a lot of sentimental value for the couple.

Hoft had been using social media to try to find the cat. Now she thinks someone dropped off the statue outside her home sometime on Sunday night.

'Sorry for the inconvenience'

Under the cat statue was a note saying, "Returning what is rightfully yours. My apologies for the stupidity of others. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Hoft says in the end, she's just happy to have the statue back.

"I really don't know what happened and how it happened, we are just extremely glad it is back," said Hoft."My faith in humanity is absolutely restored."
