St. Patrick's Day celebrations bring luck of the Irish to B.C.
There's lots to do whether you fancy Celtic music, food, or drink...
Call it the luck of the Irish.
About 150,000 people went to CelticFest's 11th annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Vancouver on Sunday.
"It was one of the biggest turn-outs ever," said Nicole Sirockman, festival director. "It's a wonderful, jovial event. Everyone wanted to be a part of the celebrations and there was something for all ages."
The parade was just one of the festival's weekend events, there was also Irish dancing, a Celtic village set up around Robson Square and a Ceilidh at the Imperial theatre.
Celebrations continue on Monday night with the internationally-renowned fiddler, singer and songwriter April Verch playing at the Annex. And the CelticFest's pub series hosts entertainment at Doolin's and the Belmont on Tuesday.
There's an all-ages party at the BlarneyStone in Gastown on St. Patrick's Day, taking over the 200 block of Carrall Street and running from 9 a.m. PT with a brunch buffet through to 2 a.m. There'll be plenty of Irish dancers, pipes and drums, circus performers and more.
If you're in Victoria, check out the Irish Times. The pub, named one of the top 10 Irish pubs outside of Ireland, will have live music and festivities from noon until close on Tuesday.
And for those in Nanaimo, B.C. there's an Irish Rovers' Street Party at the Diana Krall Plaza. The ambassadors of Irish music are on their 50th anniversary tour and are playing at Port Theatre in Nanaimo Monday and Tuesday nights.
