Vancouver police say they are investigating a fatal shooting in the parking lot of an upscale downtown hotel.

According to investigators, a witness spotted a body inside a vehicle on the third level of the parkade at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel around 3:30 p.m. PT Wednesday. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

On Thursday, police identified the victim as 35-year-old Amandeep Manj.

Investigators say the shooting was targeted, and are asking the public to remain vigilant while the hunt for the suspect continues.

"This brazen shooting happened in broad daylight at a popular tourist hotel in the city," said Const. Tania Visintin.

Vancouver police are also trying to determine whether an overnight vehicle fire in the east of the city is connected to the shooting.

Visintin said Thursday that several people called police to report the fire near Charles and Penticton streets.

Police are now checking into possible connections between the discovery of a torched truck in East Vancouver early Thursday morning and the shooting death. (Shane MacKichan)

Anyone with information about the shooting or vehicle fire is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-2500 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
