Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in woman's shooting death
Suspect Shane Travis Hughes and victim Christine Denham knew each other, IHIT says
UPDATE — March 2, 2023: Shane Travis Hughes was sentenced on March 1 to five years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. He has already served time in pre-trial custody and has 32 months remaining in his sentence. A judge also handed him a lifetime firearms ban and a court order to provide DNA.
A Chilliwack, B.C., man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a woman who was shot last month.
Christine Denham was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a home in the 9500-block of Victor Street in Chilliwack on Feb. 26. She died from her injuries three days later, on March 1.
Shane Travis Hughes was arrested and charged in relation to her death on Friday. A statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Hughes and Denham knew each other.
Hughes was due in provincial court in Chilliwack on Monday morning.
