The air search for a missing 61-year-old B.C. pilot and his Cessna 172 single engine plane officially called off Saturday.

Ron Boychuck disappeared 12 days ago after he took off from Revelstoke in the B.C. Interior.

He was on his way to Qualicum on Vancouver Island.

Search spokesperson Captain Cheryl Condley said the search was extensive with 17 military and 27 civil search and rescue aircraft trying to find signs of Boychuk's plane.

She said there was one last spot in the mountains west of Lytton to search.

"The searchmaster has reviewed every area that we've searched except for one area where we've been hampered by weather,"Condley said.

"We'll all return home to our units and a Buffalo aircraft from 19 Wing Comox will fly over the last area, once the weather clears."

Boychuk's three adult sons are continuing a ground search, she said.
