Sea to Sky highway crash victims identified
Olivia Sonja Robertson and Valentine Leborgne, both 19, were students at UBC
The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identities of two young women killed in a head-on collision on the Sea to Sky Highway on Saturday.
Olivia Sonja Robertson and Valentine Leborgne – both 19-year-old students at UBC – died at the scene when the Jeep Cherokee they were travelling in slammed into a pick-up truck five kilometres north of Lions Bay.
Leborgne is originally from Los Altos, California, while Robertson – who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident – is from Collingwood, Ont.
According to the coroners service, the families of both victims have been notified.
Two other women in the Jeep Cherokee were taken to hospital, where one remains in serious condition.
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the collision.
The accident, which occurred on an undivided stretch of roadway, has raised significant questions about the safety of some parts the Sea to Sky highway.
The mayor of Lions Bay Brenda Broughton says her community will be pushing for more barriers dividing the north and southbound lanes.
A memorial for the two women killed in the crash was held Monday night at UBC.
