One person has been located safely after a fire broke out on a boat on Saltspring Island Thursday morning.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received a report from a caller saying a boat docked in Ganges Harbour was fully engulfed in flames.

The crew aboard the CCGS Cape Naden were called to the scene, and extinguished the fire around 3 a.m.

They found the lone occupant of the boat safe onboard another vessel.

There's no word yet on how the fire started, but the JRCC says it might have had something to do with a vessel docked adjacent to the boat that caught fire.

The Cape Naden is standing by, in case there is any pollution.
