Police warn of abduction attempt at Saanich, B.C. school

An attempted abduction of a boy in front of an elementary school in Saanich, B.C. has police warning about an older man.

Police in Saanich, B.C. are warning the public about an elderly man who attempted to abduct a 12-year-old boy in front of Tillicum Elementary School.

It happened Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m. PT, when the boy was waiting for bus in front of Tillicum Elementary School in the 200 block of Burnside Road West.

A man believed to be in his sixties approached the boy and asked where he was going.

The man continued to make what police term "nonsensical conversation" with the boy before telling the boy that he was "coming downtown with me" and grabbing him by the shoulder. 

The student ran to a nearby business and phoned his mom, who called police.

Police warn to be on the lookout for man with this description:

  • White.
  • 60-ish.
  • Possible partial bead with white facial hair.
  • Slender build.
  • Blue baseball cap.
  • Blue and white pinstripe shirt.
  • Black umbrella with orange polka dots.
