One man has been arrested after a woman's body was found inside an apartment building in Richmond, B.C. on Sunday afternoon.

The RCMP was first called to the Panorama Place building at  7040 Granville Avenue around 2 p.m. PT.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it appears that man knew the woman and the death appears to be a case of domestic violence.

"We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are working to establish what happened inside the apartment," said a statement issued by IHIT's Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau.

The fire department was called out to escort residents from the upper floors of the building using a ladder truck, in order to preserve the evidence at the crime scene.
