The BC Coroner's Service has identified Rhett Patrick Victor Mutch, 20, as the man shot and killed last Saturday by Victoria police responding to a 911 call.

Not much is known about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Victoria police said at the time they were responding to a 911 from a residence in the 200 block of Dallas Road around 11 a.m.PT Nov 1.

When they arrived on scene, officers were confronted by a man who was shot by police and who subsequently died as a result of his injuries, according to the Independent Investigations Office [IIO], which provides civilian oversight of serious police incidents.

After the shooting, witnesses reported seeing a man being taken from the house and put into an ambulance.

The ambulance never left the scene indicating the man died there.

The IIO has taken over the investigation.
