B.C. 'childbirth activist' charged with manslaughter in newborn's death

The charge against 77-year-old Gloria Lemay comes almost one year to the day after the alleged victim died on Jan. 6, 2024 — 10 days after a home birth over which Lemay is accused of presiding in contravention of a decades-old court order restraining her from acting as a midwife.

B.C. winery fined $118K and permanently banned from temporary foreign worker program

Employers found to be non-compliant with regulations under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) can receive a monetary penalty, a ban on hiring temporary workers, or, as in the case of this B.C. winery, both. According to the government website, a permanent ban is issued only for the most serious violations under the TFWP.

Canada's Parliament is prorogued. Here’s what that means

With Justin Trudeau on the way out, Parliament has been prorogued until March 24. As Jon Hernandez reports, the move has been used by past governments during times of political crisis.
