RCMP investigation into Stave Lake fires leads to arson charges
Christopher White is facing three counts of arson for fires that date back to 2008
A B.C. man made his first court appearance Monday on arson-related charges for fires allegedly set near Stave Lake.
Charges were laid against Christopher White, 35, after investigators looked into the cause of fires between 2008 and 2011.
The Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations discovered the fires were in the same geographical area and all set in the month of July.
Evidence gathered by Natural Resource Operations officers suggested the fires were linked.
Enforcement stepped up
"Anytime there are uncontrolled and deliberately set fires in areas that are popular recreation areas there is a significant risk to people and infrastructure," said Inspector Ted De Jager, officer in charge of the Mission RCMP in a statement.
Mission RCMP have increased patrols throughout the summer in the Stave Lake area and along several other forest service roads which are commonly used for recreational activities to ensure the safety of the public.
