Firefighters are still working to contain a wildfire about 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel near Pantage Lake.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, the fire had grown to 168 hectares and is 55 percent contained, according to fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky.

Sixty firefighters will be deployed against the blaze Wednesday, supported by air tankers and helicopters along with other heavy equipment. An incident management team is working to establish control lines surrounding the fire.

"In the Cariboo Fire Centre, we're really starting to see the moderate-to-high fire danger ratings, even some pockets of extreme," Broznitsky said.

"We'd just really like to remind people to be careful when they're using fire or spending time outdoors, because we don't want to have to divert resources away from naturally occurring fires to respond to human-caused fires."

Broznitsky says there are no risks to people or property from the Pantage Lake fire at this time.
