Alleged sexual assault took place nearly 25 years ago
Pitt Meadows Coun. David Murray is charged with sexual offences against a person under 14 in a case dating back to 1992.
The alleged sexual assault, which took place nearly 25 years ago, involved a young person whose identity is protected by a publication ban.
Charges of sexual assault and sexual touching were originally laid in November of 2016.
Court documents say the alleged incidents took place between January and December of 1992.
Murray appeared in court today to set a date for his next appearance which will be Jan. 12.
Murray was first elected in 2011, the same year he ran as a federal NDP candidate in Abbotsford.
He is currently a Port Coquitlam parks department employee.
The father of two has served on various sports teams, including the Pitt Meadows Soccer Club, the Ridge Meadows Minor Baseball Association, and as a high school basketball coach for more than 30 years, according to his biography on the city's website.

It is unclear if Murray is stepping down from his position until the matter is dealt with in court.
