Port Coquitlam imam charged with sexual assault

A Port Coquitlam imam has been charged with one count of sexual assault for an incident allegedly occurred at the Masjid Al-Hidayah and Islamic Cultural Centre.

A Port Coquitlam imam has been charged with one count of sexual assault for an incident allegedly occurred at the Masjid Al-Hidayah and Islamic Cultural Centre.

RCMP say Saadeldin Bahr, who also uses the name Dr. Saad, is facing one charge of sexual assault.

"The Coquitlam RCMP Sex Crimes Unit continues to investigate the current allegation against Mr. Bahr and is interested in hearing from anyone who has information that could advance the investigation," said a statement released by police on Thursday.

"In addition, as there is a possibility of additional victims, investigators are encouraging anyone with information about other incidents to come forward. All tips and information will be followed up," said the statement.

Police say no other information about the incident will be released in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Bahr is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23.
