The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. (IIO) has filed a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service for its consideration of charges relating to a police-involved shooting that occurred in March 2015.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in B.C., which investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

On March 1 2015, Burnaby RCMP fired shots after a police car was rammed following the robbery of a 7-Eleven convenience store at Canada Way and Edmonds Street.

RCMP said two men fled on foot after crashing their van near Canada Way and Rosewood Street a few blocks away.

One of them was tracked down by a police dog. Police said he was taken to hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries. The second man was also arrested.

"In approving charges, B.C. Prosecution Service must be satisfied there is a substantial likelihood of conviction based on the evidence gathered by the IIO and that the prosecution is in the public interest," said a statement released by the police watchdog.
