Police-involved shooting in South Slocan referred to police watchdog
Male shooting victim taken to hospital with serious injuries
A male driver shot by a police officer in South Slocan, B.C., was taken to hospital early Wednesday morning with serious injuries, and the incident has been referred to the B.C. Independent Investigations Office (IIO) by the RCMP.
According to an IIO release, Kootenay Boundary RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 3900-block of Reo Road around 2 a.m.
A vehicle matching the description of one seen leaving the scene was discovered by police. As officers approached, a female exited the vehicle, but the male driver stayed in the car.
An altercation followed and the driver was shot. His current condition is unknown, according to IIO.
