1 dead after pickup truck crashes into Surrey, B.C., bus stop

A man was killed and another injured after a pickup truck crashed into a Surrey, B.C., bus stop late Saturday afternoon, according to police.

A man was killed and another injured after a pickup truck crashed into a Surrey, B.C., bus stop bench late Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Surrey RCMP said in a statement that, at around 4:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, they received reports of a collision near the intersection of 144 Street and Hyland Road.

Police say a Ford F350 was travelling northbound on 144 Street when it veered into the oncoming lane and then collided with a bus stop bench, damaging surrounding property in the process.

A 33-year-old man was declared dead on the scene, according to police, with a second man in his 30s receiving minor injuries in the crash.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck was arrested at the scene, and drugs and speed have not been ruled out as factors in the fatal crash.

RCMP are asking anyone with more information to contact them.
