A paraglider broke his leg after crash-landing on the roof of a house at the base of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon.

The man missed the normal landing site in a sports field off Nancy Greene Way near the Cleveland Dam, and instead landed on top of the house on Cliffridge Avenue, on Vancouver's North Shore.

That woke up the owner Mike Clendenning, who was napping inside.

"I was having a little lie-down, and all of a sudden, just a real shake. I said 'What the hell,' and I realized it wasn't an earth tremor or anything," he said.

When Clendenning went outside to check on the noise he saw his dog looking up on the roof, and then spotted the paraglider up there.

Paramedics had to scramble onto the roof to treat the victim and then firefighters used a ladder truck to lift him down from the roof.

Officials with Grouse Mountain said the damage to the man's home would be repaired.

"It's all dented and there's blood all along the edge too, but he didn't put a hole, I was worried he'd put a hole in the roof or something, you know," said Clendenning.

It remains unclear whether it was wind, gear or poor flying technique that led to the crash landing.
