North Shore police warn of serial flasher targeting girls
Suspect in 4 cases uses the pretence of asking for directions before exposing himself
Police have released a sketch of a man who has been reported in numerous incidents of indecent exposure involving young girls.
Since late May, North Vancouver RCMP and West Vancouver police have received five reports of a male driver who appears to follow children, waiting until a girl is alone.
The man then calls the girl over to his vehicle under the pretence of asking for directions.
In four of five cases, the girl went to the side of his car and noticed the suspect had his genitals exposed. All of the girls ran away and reported the incident to an adult. The suspect drove away.
The girls range in age from 10 to 16. Incidents took place near the Dollarton Highway and at 15th Street near Lonsdale, although police say there have been reports from across the North Shore.
The suspect is described as 40 to 50 years of age, olive skinned, stocky build and having short black hair. In each case, he was driving a newer model grey Nissan Rogue SUV.
Police have not located the vehicle and are urging North Shore residents to be vigilant and to review personal safety measures with children, especially with school ending for the year.
Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP says role playing a scenario with children is a good way teach them how to respond.
