Here are the top baby names in B.C. for 2023

British Columbia's Health Ministry says Noah is the most popular baby name in the province for the second straight year.

Noah is the most popular name for babies born in British Columbia, topping the list for the second straight year, according to the province.

B.C.'s Vital Statistics Agency says there were 205 babies named Noah in 2023, followed by Oliver and Olivia with 196 each.

Rounding out the top 10 are Theodore, Liam, Jack, Emma, Sophia, Ethan and Leo.

Olivia has been among the top-ranked girl baby names for the past 11 years.

Across Canada, Olivia was the top girl's name and Noah the top boy's name, according to Statistics Canada's Baby Names Observatory.

The top 10 baby names for boys in B.C. are:

  • Oliver.
  • Theodore.
  • Liam.
  • Jack.
  • Leo.
  • Ethan.
  • Lucas.
  • Owen.
  • Henry.

The top 10 baby names for girls in B.C. are: 

  • Olivia.
  • Emma.
  • Sophia.
  • Charlotte.
  • Isla.
  • Ava.
  • Amelia.
  • Chloe.
  • Hazel.
  • Mila.

The agency says from Jan. 1 to Dec. 18, 2023, nearly 38,000 babies were born in B.C.

B.C. has been collecting baby name data since 1922.
