The Surrey School District is finally getting another high school in the Clayton North area, the B.C. government announced on Friday.
Shawn Wilson, the chair of the Surrey School Board says hundreds of students in the area have been packed into portables for years. The district is one of the few in the province that is still growing, by about 1,000 students a year.
"There's two schools in that area that are experiencing over capacity, and so a third secondary school, the new school in North Clayton, will I believe bring that into line with acceptable standards for housing students"
Wilson says the estimated cost for the new school is about $34 million. Construction could start as early as next year and be completed in September 2016.
