A trio of Search and Rescue teams from Coquitlam, Central Fraser Valley and Ridge Meadows are joining to renew the search for a missing 49-year-old hiker near Pitt Lake.

Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue manager Rick Laing said the man left on a hike on September 9, which was only expected to last for 10 to 15 days.

"We've had some periods of bad weather in these last two weeks and so that's certainly raised some concern," said Laing.

"No signs of distress, just somebody out for a long wilderness hike."

The exact route of the experienced hiker's journey is unknown, but searchers believe the man was making his way to Tingle Peak, east of Pitt Lake.

The man was supposed to check in using satellite messenger every 3 days, but the last message he sent was four days after he originally left.

Busy week for SAR teams

North Shore Rescue said they were also asked to help in the search, but had to decline due to a very busy week for volunteers.

"With our situation and our work this week, we have declined to send any of our team members," said Peter Haigh with NSR.

"Right at the moment, we're pretty maxed out."

Despite this a 33-person team will resume the search Friday morning.

The man is an experienced hiker and has been in the area before.

He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with grey hair.
