A motorcyclist has died after a collision involving a Vancouver fire truck responding to a call.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon near Lost Lagoon on the Stanley Park Causeway, Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) said in a statement.
VFRS said it was responding to a call at approximately 12:45 p.m. Saturday, travelling north on the causeway toward Stanley Park Drive, when the collision occurred.
The Vancouver Police Department says investigators believe the motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction when he collided with another vehicle and was then struck by the oncoming fire truck.
The unidentified motorcyclist died at the scene, despite efforts to save them by emergency personnel, according to the statement.
"Our crews respond to other people's emergencies every day in this city, to be involved in such a tragic incident while responding is heartbreaking," said Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Chief Karen Fry. "Our hearts go out to the friends and family of the motorcyclist and all those involved."
