Michael Taylor, 29, ID'd as mountaineer killed in Sky Pilot fall
Victoria man fell 300 metres off a glacier roughly 3-hours hiking from Sea-to-Sky Gondola area
The B.C. Coroners Service has identified the man who fell to his death on a mountain near Squamish, B.C., on Saturday.
Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Taylor, of Victoria, B.C., was hiking and climbing with a friend, hoping to summit the 2,025 metre peak of Sky Pilot Mountain that day.
"While traversing Stadium Glacier on the mountain at about 11:30 a.m., Mr. Taylor slipped and fell approximately 300 metres down the glacier," a statement from the B.C. Coroners Service said.
"Despite help provided almost immediately by fellow-mountaineers who were in the area, he died at the scene."
The B.C. Coroners Service said Squamish Search and Rescue and the RCMP's Emergency Response Team Aerial Extrication Team were of "invaluable" help in this tragedy.
An RCMP investigation and a coroners service investigation are ongoing, the service said.
