Weather warnings have been issued for the South Coast of B.C.  as a series of fall storms bear down on the region.

Winds of up to 80 km/h are forecast to hit coastal areas of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast on Friday before easing on Saturday.

Rainfall warnings have also been issued for much of the South Coast, including Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, with between 40 and 80 millimetres expected on both Friday and Saturday.

Showers will start to taper off for a cloudy end to Friday before the next storm system arrives early Saturday morning. This system will once again tap into sub-tropical moisture for a wet, windy and mild weekend.

Temperatures in Metro Vancouver will remain steady at around 8 C, quite the cool-down after the pineapple express that hit the region on Thursday, breaking high temperature records, including:

  • Vancouver Harbour 15.2 C (2007).

  • White Rock 16.0 C (1939).

  • West Vancouver 14.3 C (2007).

Another major storm will be approaching for early next week.
