Matthew Church first Jeopardy! winner from Prince George
Queen's University medical student won $24K and will return on tonight's episode
Today is a big day for a medical student from B.C: Matthew Church can finally reveal his big win on Jeopardy! after the episode aired last night.
Church, who is attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., won $24,000 after answering "What is Laos?" in response to the final jeopardy clue asking which country has the abbreviation LDPR.
Church told CBC News he identified an unusual skill in trivia early in his life and played confidently — risking everything —while on the show.
The 26-year-old was the youngest person to be nominated for Citizen of the Year in his hometown of Prince George, B.C., and is the first person from the Interior city to compete in the popular game show.
He returns on tonight's episode as the current Jeopardy! champion.
If he keeps winning, Church may face another contestant from B.C. this week, John Choi, of Vancouver.
