Massive Fortis bill gives B.C. senior gas pains
Imagine having your natural gas bill increase nearly 20-fold in two months, even though your usage has not gone up. CBC's Ben Hadaway has William Hanna's story.
Billing mistake was causing charges to skyrocket for man on fixed income
A mistake at natural gas supplier Fortis BC left a Surrey, B.C., man with a whopping and growing gas bill.
In December, William Hanna’s bill was $37, but by February, it had jumped to nearly $600.
Hanna, living on a fixed income, started washing his dishes by hand, trying to save hot water, and turned off his gas fireplace to try to cut down on gas consumption. But it wasn't helping.
He was also having trouble getting through to the company to find out why he was being charged so much.
The CBC’s Ben Hadaway reports.
