Daniel Jon Olson's charges including making and possessing child pornography
A Maple Ridge man employed by the local school district as a child and youth care worker has been charged with multiple sex-related offences, including possessing child pornography and eight counts of sexual interference.
He is on unpaid leave.
Daniel Jon Olson, 52, appeared in a Port Coquitlam Provincial Courtroom on March 8. Multiple charges have been filed against him, including:
- One count of possessing child pornography.
- One count of making, printing, publishing or possessing for the purpose of publication child pornography.
- Eight counts of sexual interference.
- Two counts of sexual assault with a weapon.
According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, the detachment's Serious Crime Unit is continuing to investigate Olson, who has been released from custody with conditions.
Sylvia Russell, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District superintendent, sent a notice to parents in the district on Thursday.
"The charges are very serious and deeply concerning, the notice reads. "Mr. Olson is a child and youth care worker in the school district and has worked in a number of our elementary and secondary schools over the course of his employment."
Russell says Olson has been on unpaid leave since the school district was made aware of his arrest.
Olson is scheduled to appear in court April 2.
