A man is dead and a woman is injured after a case of domestic violence at a family home in Maple Ridge, B.C., on Wednesday, police say.

The stabbing was reported at a house on Nelson Court, in the northern end of the city, just before 11 p.m. PT.

Police arrived and found the body of a man in his 20s. An adult woman, whose age was not immediately released, was hospitalized with non-life threatening stab wounds.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said a man in his early 20s has been arrested in relation to the stabbings. Investigators said the men and woman were members of the same immediate family and all lived in the house together.

"As you can imagine, as we can certainly imagine, this was indeed a tragic case," Sgt. Frank Jang told reporters on Thursday.

Jang did not specify how the victims and suspect are related, but said they were not spousal or romantic relationships.

The stabbing is similar to an attack at a home in Surrey, B.C., last week. A man in his 30s was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault after a triple stabbing that left a woman dead and seriously injured a toddler and another man.

As with the case in Maple Ridge, the victims and suspect in Surrey were all family members living in the same home.

Jang said investigators have "a good understanding" about what happened inside the home in Maple Ridge on Wednesday, but are asking anyone with information who has not yet provided a statement to police to call IHIT, Ridge Meadows RCMP or Crime Stoppers if they want to remain anonymous.
