Police have also identified area resident Joshua Lafleur, 25 in connection with the incident. Lafleur is described as six feet tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.

They say he should be considered armed and dangerous and are cautioning people not to approach him but to call 911 if they see him.

"It's a targeted shooting by rival groups known to each other and known by the police," said S/Sgt. Jeff McArthur of the Sooke RCMP.

The two victims, both Sooke residents in their 20s, were sent to hospital.

One of the men was shot in the arm and was able to go home Wednesday. The other man was shot in the torso and remains in hospital in stable condition.

Sooke mayor Maja Tait said the shooting came as a shock to the community.

"In my lifetime I don't recall any time there was news of this happening in our community," she said.
