A man was found shot dead Monday night in Delta, B.C. — the latest victim in a rash of deadly gun violence in Metro Vancouver.

Delta police were called to the scene in the 11800 block of Highway 10 between the Delta Golf Club and the Watershed Park after a 911 call was made at 6:40 p.m. PT, Const. Sharlene Brooks said.

Officers found a man who had died as a result of gunshot wounds. Brooks did not say whether the man was found in a vehicle or on the highway, although several vehicles were seen within the yellow police tape.

Investigators cordoned off a large immediate area. Brooks said Highway 10 from Highway 91 to 120th Street will remain closed through Tuesday morning.

Brooks did not reveal the identity of the dead man and did not say whether the shooting was gang-related.

Metro Vancouver has been plagued by about 20 shootings over the last several weeks, nine of them fatal.

Tougher sentences were included in the anti-gang legislation the federal government tabled last Thursday to deter crime and gun violence.

During his visit in Vancouver last week, Prime Minister Stephen Harper stressed that changes to the Criminal Code are necessary to ensure violent criminals face strong penalties.
