The body of a snowboarder who went missing from Cypress Mountain ski resort in West Vancouver has been found near Horseshoe Bay, rescue officials have confirmed.

The 40-year-old Surrey, B.C., man had been missing since Friday afternoon when he failed to meet up as planned with a friend.

North Shore Rescue volunteers scoured the region surrounding the ski resort on Friday afternoon and resumed on Saturday. The man's body was found near a creek to the west of the ski resort.

North Shore Rescue team leader Mike Danks said the man was snowboarding with a female friend Friday. The pair was in an out-of-bounds area. They split up and went in different directions. The woman made it out safely and, when she couldn't find her friend, contacted police around 6 p.m.

North Shore Rescue dispatched a crew who found the snowboarder's tracks. The tracks led to a steep creek area that is considered very dangerous, Danks said.

The group halted its search and resumed Saturday, using a helicopter. They spotted the man at the bottom of a cliff Saturday morning, but couldn't immediately reach him due to weather. On the second attempt, searchers reached the man, but he was dead.
