Two hikers are home safe after being rescued from the Howe Sound Crest Trail late Wednesday night.

The pair, a man and a woman in their thirties, became lost on the trail to Mount Unnecessary around 10 p.m.

Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue said the pair found just enough cell signal to call search and rescue themselves, sounding panicked.

Crews from Lions Bay Search and Rescue also responded to the call. They made contact with the hikers around 11:30 p.m., and managed to hike them down to Lions Bay by 1 a.m. Thursday.

Danks said cellphone signal was not great in the area, so it took a while for crews get an accurate location for the pair.

He said the pair were not experienced hikers, but were uninjured.
