A solo hiker — and the two volunteers who went to rescue her — were flown to safety Thursday morning after all three were forced to spend a night in the mountains due to darkness.

"Unfortunately due to fading light, the aircraft had to depart for the night," said Mike Danks with North Shore Rescue.

The female hiker managed to get just enough reception to dial 911 Wednesday evening. She lost her way on the Hanes Valley Loop, a long trail which starts from Lynn Headwaters Park.

Two North Shore Rescue volunteers were sent with the helicopter to find her. The rescuers and lost hiker were all forced to spend the night in the back-country near Lynn Lake.

Fortunately they were able to use sleeping bags and a tent stored in a nearby rescue cache.

NSR says the woman is uninjured.
