Listing cruise ship near Victoria scares passengers, sends dishes crashing
Passengers post video on social media of a few frightening moments
Passengers aboard a Carnival cruise ship sailing into Victoria experienced a few scary moments when their ship listed sharply to one side, sending dishes crashing to the floor and swimming pools draining on the outside deck.
Some passengers reported being directed by crew members to move to the opposite side of the ship as a safety precaution.
Carnival spokesperson Jennifer de la Cruz said initial reports the ship had listed 30 degrees are incorrect.
"The maximum list was around 8 degrees not 30 degrees," said de la Cruz in a statement.
"Carnival Legend experienced a technical issue related to the ship's starboard steering gear which caused the ship to unexpectedly list," said de la Cruz. "The issue was rapidly corrected and the ship proceeded on to its scheduled stop in Victoria, B.C. where it arrived a few hours later."
