A North Vancouver man says he had one drink before crashing his sports car, sending one woman to hospital, early Friday morning.

The crash happened on the Lion Gate Bridge onramp in West Vancouver at about 2 a.m.

The driver was driving downtown with three passengers when he said he lost control of the car, hydroplaning and spinning out of control.

The 2016 Scion FR-S went up over a barrier, where it came to a stop perched on the edge of the overpass.

West Vancouver police said one woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but two other passengers caught a taxi before first responders arrived.

The driver blamed "bald" rear tires for the crash.

Alcohol investigated

Police officers could be seen administering a breathalyzer test after the crash, and the driver admitted he had been given a three day suspension, though he claimed to have consumed just one drink.

Police say speed and alcohol will be investigated as factors in the crash.
