Levi, a young porpoise rescued after getting stranded off Vancouver Island, has become the first cetacean ever to be successfully rescued, rehabilitated and released by Vancouver Aquarium.
It is not known how the adult porpoise came to be stranded on a rock in Saanich Inlet in March, but officials say he was suffering from a lung infection and couldn't swim or eat.
Now, after more than five months of treatment at Vancouver Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, he has been successfully released back into the inlet, his natural habitat.
