Leroy Anderson, a Victoria police officer, is facing 13 charges related to fraud.

Charges include forgery, possession of a forged document, and fraud

Leroy Anderson, a Victoria police officer, is facing 13 fraud-related charges, the department said Thursday.

The charges — which are connected to alleged off-duty actions by Anderson — include six counts of forgery, six counts of possession of a forged document, and one charge of fraud.

According to court documents, prosecutors are alleging that between Sept. 2012 and 2013, Anderson forged a woman's signature on promissory notes totaling $235,000 dollars. He's also accused of defrauding a man of $65,000 over a two-year span.

A criminal investigation was launched in September, after the alleged fraudulent activity was reported to VicPD. Anderson has been suspended with pay since, and his employment is now under review.

No information regarding the details of the alleged fraud have been made available by the police.

"As the case is now before the courts, and there is an ongoing Police Act investigation, we are limited in what we can say at this time," Chief Const. Frank Elsner said in a statement.
