20-year-old in hospital after stabbing in Langley
A fight broke out after two groups left a bar Friday night
Langley RCMP is investigating after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in a parking lot on Friday night.
According to a statement from RCMP, police were called at 11:30 p.m. PT after a report of a stabbing in the parking lot outside of the bar Oak & Thorne on 88 Avenue in Langley in front of the nearby Sandman Hotel.
The area was closed off by police tape for several hours as investigators questioned witnesses.
The victim, who is from Surrey, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police say an altercation broke out between two groups after leaving a bar, and alcohol is believed to be involved.
The two groups are believed to be known to each other.
In a statement, The Joseph Richard Group, which owns the Oak & Thorne, says it is assisting the RCMP in its investigation.
It says the people involved in the stabbing were in the bar earlier, but left without incident. Later, the group says its staff at the door noticed the altercation, helped break it up and assisted paramedics.
The group says it is the founder, and an active member of the Fraser Valley Barwatch program. Similar programs require individuals, who wish to enter a participating establishment, to have their photograph taken and identification scanned.
