Landslide now cleared from Highway 97 near Peachland, B.C.
Mass of earth and trees covered southbound lane of main Okanagan highway
Crews have now cleaned up a small landslide that brought traffic to a standstill when it covered the southbound lane of Highway 97 near Peachland, B.C., on Friday afternoon.
The slide happened shortly after 1 p.m. PT about three kilometres south of the small Okanagan community.
A large mass of earth and trees slid down the hillside onto a two-lane portion of the road.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said the dirt and debris covered the southbound lane only, with a tree from the slide blocking part of the north bound lanes.
Landslide cleared, traffic moving
The highway is a major artery connecting the North and South Okanagan, and the slide temporarily halted traffic.
Maintenance contractors responded immediately to clear the slide.
The ministry said there was no impact or injury to motorists aside from some delays.
There is no word yet on what might have caused the slide.
