Kwantlen gets B.C.'s 1st public school of Chinese medicine
B.C. has six private schools teaching traditional Chinese medicine recognized by college
B.C.'s first public school of traditional Chinese medicine will be hosted by Kwantlen Polytechnic University, which has campuses in Surrey, Richmond and Langley.
Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk says the focus of the new school will be on offering B.C. residents more choice and greater options in health care.
Richard T. Lee, the parliamentary secretary for traditional Chinese Medicine, says establishing the school is an opportunity to strengthen the province's position as the Canadian leader in Chinese medicine.
The government says establishing a school in the public post-secondary system will complement the six private schools already operating in the province.
Multiculturalism Minister Teresa Wat says traditional Chinese medicine has become increasingly popular with the public.
Last year's speech from the throne contained a promise to create a publicly funded Chinese medicine program.
