Kingsgate Mall: who's behind those tribute tweets?

With its discount groceries and dollar store, Kingsgate Mall hasn't quite kept up with the gentrification of Mount Pleasant. But two superfans are celebrating the East Vancouver relic with a tongue-in-cheek Twitter account.

A satirical Twitter account celebrating East Vancouver's aging Kingsgate Mall has become an unexpected online hit.

Michelle Hanley and Asha Wozny started tweeting as @kingsgatemall a few weeks ago and have nearly 2,000 followers.

Their tweets sing the praises of the Mount Pleasant landmark, and poke fun at its discount clothing stores and dreary vibe.

"We're big fans of the place, but it's definitely a mall with character," said Hanley.

Mall leaseholders think the attention is funny

Hanley and Wozny say some people have mistaken them for mall spokespeople.

"I've just been waiting for a cease and desist letter, or something, since this has started, but I've heard nothing from the management at all," said Hanley.

Representatives of Beedie Development Group, the leaseholders for the mall, say they're aware of the account and think it's funny.
