Inspirational aboriginal women share their stories
At CBC Vancouver Inspiration Series: Dream Makers aboriginal women discuss overcoming barriers to live dreams
In the run up to National Aboriginal Day on Sunday June 21, CBC Vancouver held a panel event highlighting the challenges faced by ultimately successful aboriginal women in B.C.
At the CBC Vancouver Inspiration Series: Dream Makers, four panelists shared their stories of the obstacles they faced as aboriginal women on their path to living their dreams, and outlined where they turned for inspiration to overcome these barriers.
Moderated by CBC's Duncan McCue and hosted by Lisa Charleyboy, the four featured panelists included:
- Melanie Mark, a community advocate
- Dr. Gwen Point, the Chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley.
- Laurie Sterritt, the director of Aboriginal Employment, Education and Procurement at B.C. Hydro
- Dorothy Grant, an acclaimed artist and fashion designer
The women shared messages of inspiration with aboriginal women who attended from across the Lower Mainland. Here are some of the event's highlights.
