Independent Investigations Office called to police-involved shooting in Grand Forks, B.C.

RCMP confirm there has been a police-involved shooting in Grand Forks, B.C., and the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating the incident.

The altercation began as police received a report of an erratic driver just before 3:30 p.m. PT.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, they said the driver tried to avoid the officers by ramming his vehicle into several police cars.

Police fired shots and the male driver suffered unknown injuries. His current condition is unknown.

Witnesses say the man was transported via air ambulance under police guard.

The IIO — the organization that investigates officer-related deaths or serious injuries — confirmed it is sending investigators to Grand Forks for a "police-related incident".

Grand Forks, a town of 4,000 at the confluence of the Granby and Kettle rivers in B.C.'s Interior, is in the midst of a historic flood.
